Playground

The exhibition publication Playground / Leikkikenttä is not a traditional book. The works featured in the exhibition by artist Elina Brotherus were inspired by event scores created by Fluxus artists in the 1960s and 1970s. Following this inspiration, the publication was designed to be something else.

The outcome is an “exhibition in a box” — limited-edition, handcrafted box contains 80 cards and a folded brochure, representing a departure from conventional exhibition publications. Selecting the colours for the three boxes, made from leftover materials at the printing house, was a creative and enjoyable process that echoed the playful nature of a Fluxus-inspired game.

The exhibition’s typography and colour scheme also reflect this sense of playfulness. The design work extends to a folded brochure/poster, an outdoor banner, flags, and a cloth bag.
